The Importance of Census 2020 for Our Community

We at the Community Action Center (CAC) hope you are staying safe and well during these uncertain times of COVID-19.

Our CAC staff members are ready to assist community members on all weekdays (closed for lunch 12-1 PM) in Pullman. Phone 509-334-9147 or email cac@cacwhitman.org as the best ways to make contact. We are limiting access at the office, and curbside food assistance is available at the Community Food Bank on Wednesdays 11am-1pm and Thursdays 2-4pm with our  COVID-19 limited hours of operation.

We also wanted to remind you about an important event that will help shape the future of our community for years to come.

The United States Census, which takes place every 10 years, helps determine accurate counts of the population, informing funding and resource decisions for our communities. Your participation will make an impact and could mean the difference between funding for valuable community resources, preparing for the next pandemic, and more.

Participating in the census is free, simple, and important for shaping the future of our community. Census participation is required by law, and according to the Census Bureau, helps:

  • Determine how many seats Washington gets in Congress
  • Guide how more than $675 billion in federal funding is distributed to states and communities
  • Create jobs, provide housing, prepare for emergencies, and build schools, roads and hospitals

The 2020 Census asks a few key questions:

  • Name of each person in the household and their relationship
  • Age, Sex and Date of Birth, Phone Number
  • Owner/renter status
  • Race, including if you are of Hispanic, Latino or Spanish origin
  • Whether each person in the household lives there or stays somewhere else

While these questions are simple, the government recognizes that they may be sensitive for some people. For details on confidentiality and the privacy of your information, please see their Factsheet: https://bit.ly/censusfactsheet
